Are Good Citizens Sheep?

Glenwood Springs, CO from Grizzly Mountain, September, 2012

Throughout my adult life many people have suggested to me that most people, the vast majority, live their lives like sheep. They suggest through a perversion of the old religious metaphor that people can’t really make a difference and just follow the crowd. This stereotype of people is used to rationalize treating others poorly. People are vulnerable and need protection and nurturing to thrive.

If you are a ‘sheep’ thinker, let it go. Sheep are not deep thinkers with complex goals and desires like people. Sheep are cute and mostly docile domestic livestock that owe their existence and success as a species to their relationship with people. We should be kind to sheep and thankful for their important contributions to mankind. We should work hard to help make society better, whether through private or governmental means. We really benefit from both.

Are Politicians Crooks?

Redstone, CO, to the south, September, 2012

Redstone, CO, to the North, September, 2012

Business ethics have been deplorable in recent times. Major companies led by wealthy non-politicians have been harming the environment, eroding hard earned workers rights and cheating people out of scarce resources. They have also been telling you who to vote for with funds exceeding billions of dollars over the past several elections.

The politicians that have their campaigns funded by the less ethical will likely support less ethical issues including lower tax rates for the wealthiest and cutting critical programs that bolster those thru the middle class. Healthcare is very important to those that don’t have financial wealth. Excellent public education for the young and low cost higher education for everyone benefits us all – even the wealthiest. There are many very important issues that the less ethical conservatives will underfund or defund if given a chance. The Democrats are not planning on increasing taxes except for the most wealthy as they are currently paying too little.

Don’t let that happen get registered to vote and support the following candidates:

Barack Obama and Joe Biden for President and Vice-President of the United State of America

In Washington State:

Jay Inslee for Governor

Maria Cantwell for Senate

Democrats for Congress including Rick Larsen and Suzan DelBene and up and down the ballot

What Kind of Integrity Does it Take?

Trail in the Cascade Mountains

Trail in the Cascade Mountains

I wrote about Barack Obama and the Democrats, up and down the ticket, having the most integrity in the upcoming November election. I didn’t claim that others did not have integrity or that you should never trust them. I’m sure there are some integrity challenged candidates out there, but you really should be best off by selecting Democrats. Why?

Back to integrity. The Democrats at this time, individual weaknesses aside, have a platform and commitment to help every American to live a good life. The commitment is not to obtain goals through empty promises and hocus pocus, but through solid, fiscally sound plans that are more fair than the status quo.

Both sides have the integrity to protect most victims of crime, but the Democrats have the only solid plan to prevent crime and encourage ethical success. In other words, the Democrats have a much more holistic approach to nurturing it’s citizens from birth to end of life. It’s not a hand out. It’s fairness. It doesn’t stand in the way of or penalize success. It encourages people to work hard and intelligently, so that they can better achieve success. It is not incomplete integrity for a few, but integrity for everyone.
